As you may know, the CDCR is considering excluding people serving LWOP from its new resentencing regulations under 1170d. We believe this is wrong and unfair. We are seeking your help in advocating to Secretary Diaz, the decisionmaker in this issue, that all people, regardless of sentence, should have the chance to be considered by the CDCR for referral to court for their sentence to be reviewed.
Below you will find template letters for individuals, corporations, prisoners and their family members to complete and mail to Secretary Diaz, as well the California Rehabilitation Oversight Board (C-ROB).
Secretary Diaz is a member of C-ROB, and regularly attends these meetings. The next C-ROB meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4. Please let people know to ask friends and family to consider attending this meeting and giving public testimony on this issue. They can obtain more information about the meeting location and time closer to the date at https://www.crob.ca.gov/. Please ask them to contact me if they have questions.
We want Secretary Diaz to know how much opposition there will be if people with LWOP are excluded from another avenue that would provide hope for freedom. Thank you very much for your help and involvement in this vital issue.
